How to Play FIFA Soccer 97
Quick start
Begin with an Exhibition match before committing to a league, tournament or indoor campaign. Use short B passes to draw defenders out, then choose between an A lob into space and a powered C shot. The indoor game is faster and keeps the ball in play off the walls, so switch defenders early and avoid reckless challenges near your goal. When you are comfortable, use team management and formations before kick-off, then carry the same simple passing rhythm into longer competitions.
Controls
The D-pad moves the active player and aims every kick. In attack, A lobs, B passes and C shoots; hold the chosen kick for more power and use left or right after contact for aftertouch. On defence, A tackles, B switches the selected player and C makes a sliding tackle. With a six-button controller, X sprints, Y enters passback mode after a pass and Z performs a hard tackle that often draws a card. Start pauses and opens the match menu; set pieces reuse A for a high ball, B for a low pass and C for a shot.
