Choose an exhibition game and start with a familiar playoff side before committing to the tournament. Move the ball carrier with the D-pad, use B for a quick pass and C when you want to select a particular receiver before releasing the pass. Press A to shoot; momentum and court position determine whether the player takes a set shot, jump shot, fade-away or dunk. On defence, B switches to the teammate closest to the ball, A attempts a block and C goes for an interception or steal. Protect the lane instead of chasing every pass.

The D-pad moves the controlled player. On offence, A shoots or triggers a suitable slam/signature move from the right position. B makes a quick pass, while C lets you choose a receiver and then release the pass. On defence, A makes the player jump for a block, B brings the teammate closest to the ball under control, and C attempts to intercept a pass or steal while dribbling. Start pauses. During an instant replay, the D-pad changes speed and direction, A changes the camera angle, B zooms and C turns the ball-follow camera on or off.
