How to Play Total Football

Quick start

Choose from 52 international sides and enter a friendly, 16-team league, 32-team knockout, or World Cup-style tournament. Set one of eight formations, use the isometric view to pass into space, and move off the ball rather than dribbling into defenders. Change the strength of passes, shoot only after opening an angle, and keep defenders goal-side because the diagonal camera can make recovery directions deceptive.

Controls

D-pad: move the active player relative to the pitch and navigate menus. The face buttons pass with different strengths, shoot, tackle, and switch player according to possession. Start pauses. Same-platform sources confirm the actions and isometric direction system, but no accessible original Mega Drive manual supplied a reliable A/B/C assignment; verify the exact layout in the opening options.
