Choose John Morris for a conventional whip with a ceiling grapple, or Eric Lecarde for longer lance reach and a charged high jump. On a first run, select Normal with several lives and break candles before moving past them; jewels fuel sub-weapons, food restores life, and coat-of-arms icons power the main weapon. Keep enough jewels for bosses instead of spending every powered sub-weapon on minor enemies. John can swing across gaps by striking a normal ceiling block diagonally upward. Eric can hold Down and jump to vault three times higher, gaining protection while he rises. Record the password awarded after every stage boss.

Move with the D-pad, press Down to crouch or descend stairs, A to attack with whip or lance, B to jump, and C to use the current sub-weapon. Up+C performs the stronger version of that sub-weapon and costs more jewels. Start begins and pauses play. John can attack diagonally upward into an ordinary ceiling block and swing from the embedded whip. Eric performs a Mega Jump by holding Down to charge and then pressing B; choose a left or right descent direction in the air. After attacking, quickly alternate Left and Right to spin Eric’s lance as a close-range shield. Controls can be remapped in Options.
