How to Play Genpei Touma Den: Computer Boardgame

Quick start

Once you have decided on the number of participants and their names, proceed from the starting point of Kagekiyo, who will be in charge. The strength of the enemy will change depending on the fortune written immediately after entering the country, so if it's evil or great evil, don't force yourself to defeat all the monsters, but instead look for Tsuzura, torii, Jizo, castles, and exits. In the early stages, collect money and virtue from enemies you can defeat, increase your sword power and defense power at the torii gate, and when your stamina decreases, recover it at the Jizo before challenging the castle lord. Replenish your spell base with Tsuzura and save it for dangerous castle lord battles and strong enemies. The Kusanagi sword and mirror will greatly increase your fighting power, and all three types, including the magatama, will be necessary for the battle against Yoritomo, so you will aim for Kamakura without overlooking the country where you obtained them.

Controls

Cross button: Move Kagekiyo, select items and battle commands. A button: Confirm. B button: Cancel command. START: Start the game, pause and resume during play. SELECT: Normally not used. For detailed input on the monster side, please follow the display for each scene.

Genpei Touma Den: Computer Boardgame — About this game

The Famicom version of Genpei Toumaden is not an action game that is a direct reproduction of the arcade version, but rather a work that combines board game elements that allow you to navigate the map of Japan with a command-based RPG. The player plays the role of Kagekiyo Taira, and each time he moves from country to country, he draws fortunes and defeats monsters to earn money and virtue while the difficulty changes depending on the results. At the torii, you can use virtue to strengthen your sword power, defense, and speed, and at the Jizo, you can recover your physical strength. If you defeat the castle lord or negotiate a deal with him, you can control the country and receive annual tribute. You can clear the game by collecting the Kusanagi Sword, Yata Kagami, and Magatama and defeating Minamoto no Yoritomo, or by taking control of the entire country. For multiple players, there is also a competitive element in which players alternate between the role of Kagekiyo and the role of the monster, competing for the amount of annual tax.
