Explore the countryside and towns from a map view, then enter action scenes for encounters and enemy-filled landmarks. Movement, sword attacks and jumps replace menu-based combat in these fights. Towns provide important preparation: inns restore vitality, training houses teach special attack skills and password houses let you record a return point. New techniques only work after learning them, so visiting a training house changes what you can do in later battles. Outside combat, the command window lets you talk, use items and search nearby surroundings. Check the status screen for vitality, collected vases, selected magic and learned skills before returning to the road.
