How to Play Batman Returns
Quick start
Press START at the title screen and again to skip the story if desired. Select Route 1 or Route 2 with the directional pad, then press START. Practise throwing a Batarang with 1 and jumping with 2. Jump, then press and hold 2 again to attach the hook to a ledge.
Controls
Left/Right: move. Down: crouch. 1: throw Batarang or punch at close range. 2: jump; hold after jumping to glide. In mid-air, press and hold 2 again to fire the hook. Attached: Up reels in, 1 climbs onto the ledge; Down then release 2 detaches. START: open/close options.
Batman Returns — About this game
Batman Returns is a Game Gear action platformer built around Batman’s equipment. Five stages offer different routes through Gotham, with a boss waiting at the end of each stage. Your Batarang is not just a fixed attack: the options window lets you trade strength for reach, choosing Long Range, Normal or Powerful. Movement matters just as much as combat. The grappling hook reaches ledges beyond an ordinary jump, while swinging builds momentum for crossing gaps. Holding the jump button lets Batman glide a little farther. Learn to attach, reel up and detach before rushing into a dangerous crossing; these tools are central to navigating the city.
