How to Play Batter Up
Quick start
Press START at the title. Use directions and 2 to select your team, begin a new game, choose an opponent, five or nine innings, a stadium and a starting pitcher. At bat, move into position and press 2 to swing. When pitching, press 2 for the windup, then use directions to vary the pitch.
Controls
Directions move the batter or fielder. Batting: 2 swings; releasing it mid-swing bunts. Steal: choose a base with directions during the windup and press 1. Pitching: 2 starts the windup, Up gives a changeup, Down a fastball, Left/Right adjusts placement and then curves the released ball. Fielding: directions + 2 reaches for difficult balls; choose a base and press 2 to throw. START calls time; 2 opens substitutions, directions choose and 2 confirms.
Batter Up — About this game
This Game Gear baseball game combines action on the diamond with decisions from the dugout. Choose a team, an opponent, a five- or nine-inning game, a stadium and a starting pitcher before the first ball. Batting includes full swings and bunts, while runners need your instructions to push beyond first base or attempt a steal. On defence, positioning and directional pitch control matter, and fielders can reach for difficult balls before throwing to a chosen base. A timeout allows a pinch hitter or relief pitcher when the situation changes. Team statistics help frame those decisions. The original cartridge also supports two players through two Game Gear systems and a Gear-to-Gear cable. Start with a shorter game to practise each phase before managing a full nine innings.
