How to Play Championship Hockey
Quick start
Press START and choose a single match, teams and game settings with the directional pad. Confirm the highlighted choices with an action button. On the rink, move toward open ice, pass with 1 and shoot with 2. Practise a short match before entering knockout competition.
Controls
Directional pad: skate or move through menu choices. With possession, 1 passes and 2 shoots. START begins play and pauses during a match.
Championship Hockey — About this game
Championship Hockey for Game Gear places the action in a scrolling overhead rink. Take control of the skaters, move the puck between teammates and look for a shooting lane instead of driving straight into defenders. The computer handles the goalkeeper, leaving you to build attacks and recover possession. National teams provide the setting for individual matches and knockout competition. Period length can be adjusted to fit a short session or a longer contest, and the penalties setting changes how carefully you must approach physical play. Switching from attack to defence quickly matters as much as the final shot: after losing the puck, protect the route toward your own goal before chasing the carrier.
