How to Play Columns

Quick start

Press START and choose 1 PLAYER, then ORIGINAL. On the settings screen use up/down to select an option and left/right to change it. Begin with EASY and a low LEVEL, then press START. Move the falling stack toward a matching colour, cycle its gems with 1 or 2 and use down to lower it faster.

Controls

Left/right moves the falling stack. Down speeds its descent. 1 and 2 cycle its three gems in opposite directions; they do not turn the stack sideways. In menus, up/down selects and left/right changes settings. START confirms and pauses during play.

Columns — About this game

Columns drops gems in vertical stacks of three. You can move each stack sideways and cycle the order of its colours before it lands. Three or more matching gems disappear when they line up horizontally, vertically or diagonally, so a useful placement can open several lines at once. Watch the next-piece preview and keep the pile low enough to leave room for later drops. ORIGINAL rewards sustained play and a growing score; FLASH asks you to uncover and remove a flashing gem as quickly as possible. Difficulty changes how many colours appear, while the starting level or pile height changes the initial challenge. A move that looks tidy now can block a diagonal later, so look beyond the bottom row before committing.
