How to Play Ecco the Dolphin
Quick start
Press START at the title to reach the underwater cavern. Swim Right to start a new quest, or Left for password entry. Swim with directions, charge with 1 and press 2 repeatedly to gain speed. Press START to sing; hold it until the echo returns for the sonar map. Find air before the breath meter empties.
Controls
Directions: swim; light taps move slowly and holding cruises. 1: charge attack. 2 repeatedly: speed swim; aim toward the surface for a leaping spin. START during play: sing; hold for sonar map, press to leave that map. Text screens: 1 or 2 advances, START skips. Passwords: directions choose letters, 1 or 2 enters, START submits.
Ecco the Dolphin — About this game
This is a pre-release build of Ecco the Dolphin. Ecco the Dolphin for Game Gear follows a dolphin searching for the pod taken from his once-safe home. Exploration is shaped by two needs: keeping healthy and finding air. Charge into small fish for food, seek healing clams and remember a surface or air pocket before diving deeper. Songs communicate with other creatures and return clues; holding the song button until the echo returns reveals a sonar map of passages and dangers. Swimming is more than steering at full speed. Light directional taps help through narrow spaces, while repeated speed-button presses build momentum for leaps above the water. Passwords allow a return to reached sea levels. Listen and map the surroundings before attempting a difficult barrier rather than spending all your breath searching blindly.
