How to Play Evander Holyfield's 'Real Deal' Boxing
Quick start
Press START, choose an exhibition and select your fighter. Use the default Control Set A for a first bout. Move with directions, throw the favourite left punch with 1 and right with 2. Hold a direction first, then press the punch button to try directional combinations.
Controls
Control Set A: Left/Right moves sideways, Up closes distance and Down retreats. 1: favourite left punch; 2: favourite right punch. Hold Up then 1/2 for a straight to the head, Left/Right then 1/2 for a hook, or Down then 1/2 for a body cross. START: confirm menus or pause/resume a bout. Other layouts are selected in Options.

Evander Holyfield’s Real Deal Boxing for Game Gear combines ring movement with a choice of punch controls. Exhibition matches let you meet the fighters individually, while tournament play gives the climb toward the champion a longer goal. You can also create a fighter with characteristics such as speed, stamina, style and favourite punches. The default Control Set A uses the two action buttons for favourite left- and right-handed punches. Directional combinations change the attack to straights, hooks or body shots. Position matters because the same pad moves you sideways, forward and away from the opponent. Practise the default layout before choosing the alternative sets, and learn a few deliberate combinations rather than pressing both hands without a plan.
