How to Play F1~ Formula One
Quick start
Press START through the pre-race menus. Up/Down highlights and 1 confirms. Choose Arcade or Grand Prix and use automatic transmission for a first drive. Left/Right steers, 1 accelerates and 2 brakes. In Grand Prix, practise qualifying laps before starting the race.
Controls
Left/Right: steer. Automatic: 1 accelerates, 2 brakes. Manual: 1 raises revs; press 2 with 1 to shift up, or 2 + Down to shift down. START pauses into race options; select an option and press START again. Menus use Up/Down and 1; setup uses 1 to edit/confirm and 2 when finished.
F1~ Formula One — About this game
F1 Formula One for Game Gear separates a position-targeted Arcade challenge from Grand Prix racing. Arcade asks you to finish at or above a required position to reach the next round. Grand Prix adds car setup and qualifying, with your best practice lap determining the starting grid. Choose automatic transmission to focus on steering and braking, or manual gears for more control. Wings, tyres and engine settings change the balance of grip, acceleration and speed. Repeated spins wear tyres; when the dashboard asks for a pit stop, stop on the starting grid for a change. Race distance can be four, eight or twelve laps. Learn the next corner rather than treating every straight as a reason to keep accelerating.
