How to Play OutRun
Quick start
Choose 1 PLAYER GAME with up/down and press START. Select music and AT for automatic transmission, then confirm with START. Hold 2 to accelerate, steer with left/right and brake with 1 before a tight bend. At a fork, move toward the road you want and keep ahead of the countdown.
Controls
Left/right: steer. 1: brake; 2: accelerate. With MT transmission, up selects low gear and down selects high gear. START starts or pauses. Menus use the D-pad and START; in VERSUS COMPUTER choose a course before choosing music and transmission.
OutRun — About this game
OutRun turns a road trip into a race against the countdown. In the Game Gear version, the normal drive lasts four rounds, with forks letting you choose the next stretch from a network of ten courses. Traffic and roadside obstacles punish careless steering, so preserving speed through a bend matters as much as holding the accelerator. You can choose music and automatic or manual transmission before setting off. Manual gears add another decision when recovering speed after braking. VERSUS COMPUTER offers a different test: choose one course and race a single rival, with no ordinary traffic between you and the finish. Try automatic transmission first, learn the bends, then return to explore another route or challenge the computer.
