Build melds from three or four equal ranks, or runs of at least three cards in one suit. Aces stay low, while unmatched cards count as deadwood. Reduce that total to make a legal knock or arrange the whole hand to call gin, watching which discards your opponent accepts. Reordering your hand makes potential melds easier to see without forcing you to commit to the first combination.
