How to Play Shanghai II
Quick start
Choose Solitaire and a formation. Move the cursor onto a free tile, select it, then choose its matching free partner. Clear upper layers and blocked sides while keeping future pairs accessible.

Pad: move the tile cursor and menu selection. 2: select/confirm a tile or option. 1: cancel a selection/back. START: begin from the title. A playable pair needs matching symbols, no covering tiles and at least one open side on each tile.
Shanghai II — About this game
Shanghai II on Game Gear turns a stack of 144 mahjong tiles into a planning puzzle. Remove matching pairs only when both tiles are free: each needs no tile above it and an open side. A tempting pair near the edge can leave a useful tile buried, so inspect the layers before committing. Solitaire offers different formations to learn, while Tournament adds time pressure and Challenge supports a linked contest. Work first on tiles that release several others, and keep track of symbols still trapped beneath higher layers. The challenge comes from the changing shape of the board rather than reflexes, with every cleared pair reshaping your next choice.
