How to Play Sonic The Hedgehog
Quick start
Press START on the title screen, then press START again on the area map to enter Green Hill. Move right to build speed and collect the first rings. Use 1 or 2 to jump onto enemies rather than running into them. Slow down near ledges and pass the end plate to finish the act.
Controls
Left/right moves Sonic; holding a direction builds speed. Press down while running to roll. While standing still, up/down scrolls the view vertically. Either 1 or 2 performs a spin jump, which attacks enemies on contact. START begins the game and pauses or resumes play.
Sonic The Hedgehog — About this game
Sonic races across South Island to stop Dr. Robotnik, whose machines imprison the island’s animals. This Game Gear adventure combines running and spin jumps with careful platforming across six zones, each divided into three acts. Finish the early acts by passing the end plate, then defeat the doctor and open the animal capsule to clear the zone. Holding a ring protects Sonic from an enemy hit, but that hit removes every ring you have, and the lost rings cannot be collected again. Keeping a reserve matters more than rushing blindly through a stretch of enemies. Each zone also hides a Chaos Emerald; collecting all of them unlocks the full ending. Stop to look above or below the screen when a route is unclear, then use a rolling attack or jump to pass the next obstacle.
