How to Play World Cup Soccer
Quick start
Press START, choose Game Start with 1, then Exhibition and the teams. Move with directions, pass with 2 and shoot with 1. After losing possession, 2 switches player and 1 makes a sliding tackle.
Controls
Directions: movement/aim/menu. 1: long or running kick, shot, sliding tackle, menu confirmation. 2: short pass/player switch. Set pieces: left/right aim, up/down stronger/weaker with 1 to restart. START: pause.

World Cup Soccer combines quick matches with an international tournament on Game Gear. Exhibition is a useful place to learn the change between attacking and defending: the same buttons serve different jobs when possession changes. Pass to a nearby teammate instead of running into a crowd, then shoot when you have a clear line to goal. On defense, switch to a player with a useful angle before sliding. Set pieces give you time to aim the direction and strength of the restart. Learn those situations in a single match before beginning a longer cup run.
