How to Play Ghoul School
Quick start
Move right from the entrance, use the bat on the first large-eyed monsters, and note every room number as you change hallways or floors. Press Up at doors, lockers, and stairs to investigate them. Classrooms may restore health through food, but their enemies make unnecessary visits costly. Open the inventory with START whenever a new weapon or pair of shoes is found, then equip the item needed for the next obstacle. Use lockers as temporary cover from shots or pursuing enemies, and keep a simple route list because a game over sends Spike back to Room 1 even though collected inventory remains.
Controls
D-pad Left/Right: move Spike. D-pad Up: enter doors or lockers and ascend stairs; directional inputs also navigate the inventory. A: jump and confirm an inventory choice. B: use the currently equipped weapon. START: open the inventory/subscreen to change weapons or shoes, then return to play. The NES guide does not document a general SELECT-button function.
Ghoul School — About this game
Ghoul School is a 1992 NES action-adventure platformer built around exploring a large, interconnected high school. After a mysterious skull unleashes ghouls throughout the building, student Spike O'Hara enters with a baseball bat and ordinary sneakers to rescue cheerleader Samantha Pompom. Corridors, classrooms, lockers, stairways, air ducts, and specialty rooms form a maze whose numbered locations reward careful route planning. New weapons handle different threats, while footwear such as spring or suction-cup shoes opens routes that were previously inaccessible. Classrooms can contain healing food but also force additional fights, and losing all five lives returns Spike to the entrance while allowing collected subscreen items to carry into the next attempt. Progress therefore comes from learning the school's layout as much as from defeating its monsters.
