How to Play Gorby no Pipeline Daisakusen

Quick start

Start on Level 1 and first compare the height of the active water inlet on the right with the available outlets on the left. Move a falling pair with Left/Right, rotate it clockwise with A or counterclockwise with B, then press Down when its orientation is ready. Pipe openings must face each other exactly; mere contact does not carry water. You can deliberately rest one half on a ledge so the unsupported half breaks away and drops into a lower gap. Finishing a route changes the blocks beneath it into blue blocks, so preserve open space above them for the next route. Watch the PIPES requirement and prioritize a safe connection before chasing a long scoring path.

Controls

D-pad Left/Right: move the falling pipe pair. D-pad Down: make it fall faster. A: rotate the pair clockwise. B: rotate the pair counterclockwise. START: pause during play. No standard in-game function for SELECT was documented in the checked Famicom manual and game-specific guide.

Gorby no Pipeline Daisakusen — About this game

Gorby no Pipeline Daisakusen is Compile's 1991 falling-block puzzle game for the Famicom, published by Tokuma Shoten and framed as a Japan-Soviet pipeline project featuring Mikhail Gorbachev. Each piece contains two pipe segments. Move and rotate the pair so water can travel from an inlet on the right edge to a matching outlet on the left. A completed pipeline disappears, while blocks beneath it turn blue and become useful for higher scores. If only one half of a pair has support, the other half separates and continues falling, creating opportunities to fill awkward gaps. Clear the required number of pipelines to advance, use water and drill items carefully, and avoid stacking ordinary blocks to the top of the well.
