How to Play Grand Master
Quick start
Use the sword for routine enemies and strike after an attack misses rather than trading damage. Search side paths and dead ends before entering the boss door: the stage key, healing potion, MP gem, equipment upgrades, and experience-bearing chests all matter. Save the axe and rod for dangerous targets because they consume MP; the morning star is useful both at range and for swinging across marked gaps. If you want the complete ending path, preserve the relative order Castle, Cave, then Tower; the Ice Cave and Pyramid can be fitted around those three.
Controls
D-pad: move Rody and navigate title or item-screen choices. A: cycle through the weapons currently owned. B: attack with the selected weapon; holding B with the morning star anchored to a far wall can swing Rody across a short gap. SELECT: choose Start or Continue on the title screen; pause or resume during play. START: confirm at the title screen; open the stats/item screen in play and press again to return; skip ahead during story scenes.
Grand Master — About this game
Grand Master is a 1991 top-down action RPG for the Famicom, developed by Soft Machine and published by Varie. Rody explores compact combat stages in real time, searches treasure chests for the key to each boss door, and defeats the guardian holding a hero emblem. The first five regions can be selected in different orders, but that route and the events witnessed along it affect the final act and ending. Combat revolves around instantly cycling between a sword, MP-powered throwing axe, eight-direction magic rod, and a morning star that can also cross short gaps. Enemies and chests award experience, levels raise maximum HP and MP, and repeated weapon or armor pickups improve their power.
