How to Play Gremlins 2: The New Batch

Quick start

Press Start at the title. Move in eight directions with the D-pad, jump with A, and attack with B. Learn the current weapon's range on safe flooring before attempting a gap, because firing in mid-jump can disrupt your timing. Collect crystals from enemies and enter a small door when Mr. Wing's shop appears; only one item can be bought per visit. Choose a balloon before pit-heavy rooms, health or an extra life when survival is the problem, and a weapon upgrade before tougher fights. Each later section changes Gizmo's weapon, so test its reach and trajectory immediately. If all lives are lost, copy the displayed four-letter password before continuing later.

Controls

D-pad: move Gizmo in eight directions and navigate menus. A: jump and confirm menu choices. B: attack with the currently equipped tomato, match, bow, or later projectile. Start: start the game and open the pause/menu screen during play. The NES manual documents no dedicated Select action. These are the overhead NES/Famicom controls, not the side-scrolling Game Boy version.

Gremlins 2: The New Batch — About this game

Gremlins 2: The New Batch is Sunsoft's single-player overhead action game based on the film. Gizmo crosses the offices, laboratories, ducts, and other dangerous sections of Clamp Center, jumping over gaps and traps while attacking Gremlins with weapons that progress from tomatoes to matches and a bow. Defeated enemies drop crystals used at Mr. Wing's small-door shops, where one purchase can restore health, provide a balloon, improve the weapon, or add a life. A carried balloon rescues Gizmo after a fall. Five stages are divided into smaller sections and punctuated by large boss battles on the route to the Gremlin Control Center. Four-letter passwords shown after failure resume the corresponding section. This Japanese cartridge retains Japanese menu text.
