Quick start
Choose Career or a song at an easy difficulty. Read the instrument lesson, match single notes first, then practise sustained notes and chords. Review the result before repeating the difficult section or moving to the next performance.
Controls
The original DS setup uses the Guitar Grip's four colored fret buttons together with pick-stylus strumming on the touch screen. Hold the matching color as the note reaches its timing line and strum; sustain a long note as shown. Use the microphone's Star Power command only when that option is offered and the meter is ready.

Decades keeps the four-color Guitar Grip performance and builds its journey around rock from different eras. Follow the note lane, press the matching fret colors and strum the touch screen in time; a long note requires holding the fret through its tail. Lead guitar, bass and duel play give the set different rhythmic roles. Begin with an easy performance and separate the fret change from the next strum before attempting a chord run. The original cartridge uses the DS or DS Lite Game Pak-slot Grip accessory, so learn that setup rather than a console guitar's button map.
