How to Play Gumshoe
Quick start
Fire the light gun once to begin. Keep the sight slightly ahead of Stevenson so you can remove incoming hazards, then shoot Stevenson himself early enough to clear pits or reach a platform. A jump still works with no ammunition, but enemy shots do not, so pop balloons whenever possible and collect every phase's diamond. Each phase has a six-minute limit; if you miss a diamond or lose a life, use the resumed position to learn the next hazard pattern.
Controls
Zapper trigger: start the game, shoot destructible enemies or obstacles, and shoot Stevenson to make him jump. On the Game Over screen, fire to continue from the last attempted phase. Controller 1 START: pause/resume. D-pad, A, B and SELECT are not used.
Gumshoe — About this game
Gumshoe is Nintendo's 1986 side-scrolling Zapper game. Former FBI agent Mr. Stevenson runs automatically through the City, Sky, Sea, and Jungle while the player clears his path with light-gun shots. Firing at Stevenson makes him jump over pits or onto higher routes; firing at bottles, vehicles, animals, bombs, and other hazards destroys targets that can be hit. Ammunition for attacking obstacles is limited, balloons restore bullets, and popping every balloon in a phase awards an extra life. The four phases hide five Black Panther Diamonds, all of which are required before the final hideout can be entered to rescue Jennifer.
