How to Play Vice: Project Doom
Quick start
Press START and expect the opening stage to begin as an overhead car chase. Steer with the D-pad, tap A to cycle through three gears and use B to fire straight ahead; control speed before weaving around traffic. In the first platform stage, SELECT cycles the saber, blaster and bomb, A jumps and B uses the selected weapon. Keep the saber ready for ordinary enemies because it never consumes ammunition, saving shots and bombs for awkward targets and bosses. During first-person stages, move the sight with the D-pad, press B for the blaster and A for a bomb. This is the Japanese cartridge's button layout, which differs from some US Vice guides.
Controls
Driving: D-pad steers; A changes among three gears/speed levels; B fires; START pauses; SELECT has no function. Side-scrolling action: D-pad moves, Up climbs ladders, Down crouches or descends; A jumps; B attacks with the selected weapon; SELECT cycles light saber, blaster and bomb; START pauses. First-person shooting in the Japanese Gun-Dec version: D-pad moves the sight; B fires the blaster; A throws a bomb; START pauses; SELECT has no function. The saber has unlimited use, while blaster shots and bombs require ammunition pickups.
Vice: Project Doom — About this game
Gun-Dec is Aicom and Sammy's Japanese Famicom action game, later rewritten for North America as Vice: Project Doom. This cartridge follows VICE agent Hart Brabham in 2139 as an apparently routine weapons case leads toward the BEDA corporation and a larger conspiracy; the overseas script instead renames him Quinn Hart and alters character details. Eleven stages alternate among three play styles. Most are side-scrolling missions where Hart jumps, crouches, climbs and swaps between an unlimited light saber, a finite blaster and bombs. Other stages put him in an armed car with three gears or behind a movable sight in first-person shooting scenes. Enemy drops restore health or ammunition, while every 100 collected coins awards an extra life.
