How to Play Gyrodine
Quick start
Press Start and keep near the lower-middle area until you can read each wave. Use B on helicopters and planes, A on tanks and turrets, and A+B together for a dangerous ground target. Because only one seeking rocket can be present, continue with ordinary ground fire while it travels instead of mashing the combination. Make short lateral corrections against aimed shots, then use a wider sweep when several air and ground lines overlap. When scrolling stops, reduce the aircraft first with B while chipping away at emplacements with A or a rocket. After the third section the course loops at higher pressure, so treat the first pass as preparation rather than an ending.
Controls
D-pad: move the helicopter around the screen; lateral movement also influences shot angle. A: attack ground and sea targets. B: attack airborne targets. A+B together: launch a homing rocket at a ground target, limited to one rocket on screen at a time. Start: pause and resume. No verified in-game function is assigned to Select.
Gyrodine — About this game
Gyrodine is a single-player Famicom vertical shooter released by Taito in 1986. Its VTOL helicopter crosses sea, land, and fortified bases while aircraft and ground batteries attack on separate planes. B handles airborne enemies, A strikes ground or sea targets, and pressing both launches a powerful ground-seeking rocket; only one such rocket may remain on screen, so it must be aimed deliberately. The continuous route contains three major sections and then returns to the opening with more severe opposition rather than ending after a conventional finale. Ground fire can also uncover hidden mermaids and other score bonuses, giving careful players an exploration goal beyond merely surviving the increasingly dense crossfire.
