How to Play Rad Racer

Quick start

Use SELECT on the car-selection screen, then START to begin; press START again if a demonstration is running. Hold A to build speed and steer with left/right. Use Up for turbo on a clear straight, release it before bends, and use B when you need to slow down. Aim for the checkpoint flags. If time reaches zero, keep steering while the car coasts: crossing a checkpoint before stopping can save the run.

Controls

A: accelerate. B: brake. Left/right: steer. Up: turbo once sufficient speed is reached. Down: cycle three music tracks or silence. START: start/pause. SELECT: choose a car before racing; toggle the Japanese Famicom 3D System display during play. Leave 3D off without compatible equipment.

Rad Racer — About this game

Highway Star turns the road itself into a race against the clock. Choose the 328 Twin Turbo or an F1-style car, then reach successive checkpoints to earn enough time to finish each course. Traffic can knock you off line, while roadside signs and trees make mistakes expensive. Turbo helps on clear stretches, but easing off before bends is often more useful than simply holding maximum speed. This Japanese release supports the Famicom 3D System; its normal display can be used without activating that mode.
