How to Play Hissatsu Shigotonin

Quick start

Choose しごとはじめる and set the text speed. Advance the introduction with A until Mondo reaches the guardhouse, where free control begins. Face each nearby person and use A, then はなす, to hear their account before leaving. Follow the early leads to Monzencho and question the nun and Densuke. Before stopping, examine a torii or household altar with しらべる and confirm the save prompts.

Controls

D-pad: walk/select commands. A: open the map command window, confirm actions and advance dialogue. B: cancel conversation or item choices. In combat use Up/Down and A to choose an action; battle commands cannot be cancelled after selection. START begins/confirms at the title. SELECT is unused. There is no direct sword-swing or jump button: combat uses menus.

Hissatsu Shigotonin — About this game

Hissatsu Shigotonin turns its period-drama setting into an investigation adventure rather than an action game about sword timing. Mondo walks around town, questions residents and examines the space in front of him. Important conversations open further topics, and showing or using an item can produce the next lead. His secret work leads to battles with three choices: attack, defend or hide. Hiding makes the following strike stronger and reduces the chance of taking a hit. Defeat returns you to just before the encounter so you can try again. This original Japanese release relies heavily on reading; progress can be saved by examining a torii gate or a household altar.
