How to Play Hogan's Alley

Quick start

First check that your playing environment supports light-gun input; the original needs a Zapper. Use Controller 1 SELECT to choose Game A and START to begin. Watch the demonstration to learn the gangster and innocent panels, then shoot only gangsters when they turn forward. Move to Game B for changing hiding places or Game C to juggle cans toward the left ledges. Browser mouse, touch, and keyboard mappings are not established here.

Controls

Original controls: aim the Zapper and pull its trigger to shoot. Controller 1 SELECT cycles title-menu games; START starts or toggles pause. D-pad and A/B are unused. At the menu, firing away from the screen changes the choice; firing at the screen starts it. Mouse, touch, and keyboard substitutions in this environment are unverified.

Hogan's Alley — About this game

Hogan’s Alley makes deciding when not to fire as important as aiming quickly. Game A presents three turning panels at once, while Game B hides targets among windows and street scenery. Gangsters are valid targets; the woman, professor, and police officer must be spared. Game C changes the task entirely: repeated hits keep cans aloft and guide them toward the scoring platforms on the left. Dropped cans count as misses. The original NES game requires the Zapper, with the standard controller reserved for selection, starting, and pausing.
