How to Play The Hokkaido Serial Murder Case: The Okhotsk Disappearance

Quick start

Choose GAME START and confirm with START. Enter one to four characters for your name, selecting おわり to finish, and choose a comfortable message speed. At the opening scene, try ひとにきけ to ask questions and なにかしらべろ to inspect evidence. Use B at the main command list to reveal the second group, including inventory and photographs. Read new items and note names or telephone numbers before moving on.

Controls

D-pad: move the menu or inspection/telephone cursor. A: confirm commands and advance text when prompted. B: cancel/back, or switch the two command groups from the main list. START also confirms like A; it is not pause. SELECT moves the cursor downward. Finish name entry by choosing おわり. The そうさメモ command generates a password and ends the current session after confirmation.

The Hokkaido Serial Murder Case: The Okhotsk Disappearance — About this game

The Famicom edition of The Okhotsk Disappearance puts you in charge of an investigation carried out through menu commands rather than action sequences. Kuroki assists in Tokyo, while Shun becomes your partner in Hokkaido. Looking around, questioning witnesses, examining objects, taking photographs and showing evidence serve different purposes, so a discovery often matters only after you use it in another conversation. Fourteen commands are divided into two groups, and close inspection can require placing a cursor on a precise part of the scene. This original Japanese-language version uses a twenty-character investigation password to resume a case; it does not include the modern remake's voiced presentation or additional story.
