How to Play Fist of the North Star
Quick start
Use SELECT to choose 1 PLAYER and press START; try VS MODE first if you want to study the early bosses. In stage one, practice the Up-button jump and defeat ordinary enemies with punches to look for star power-ups. Keep moving before the timer expires. At a doorway, stand at its entrance, press A+B together and then Right to enter. Save your shooting energy for dangerous situations and look for a boss's opening rather than trading hits.
Controls
Left/Right: move; Up: jump; Down: crouch. A: punch. B: kick. A+B: fire forward when shooting energy is available. At a doorway, press A+B and then Right. SELECT chooses 1 PLAYER/VS MODE at the title; START begins or toggles pause. The manual's continuation for stages 1–4 is A+START when TIME OVER appears.
Fist of the North Star — About this game
Fist of the North Star is the North American NES adaptation of Hokuto no Ken 2, not the earlier Japanese game or the Game Boy fighter. Ken advances through enemy-filled streets and buildings, collecting stars that strengthen his martial arts while watching both health and the time limit. Doors lead into further areas, and bosses reward careful spacing and attacks on their weak points. Shooting energy provides a limited ranged option, while flags and necklaces restore resources or offer temporary protection. The US release uses white and black star pickups and calls its shooting reserve BOMB. Its VS MODE is practice against computer-controlled opponents from the first four stages, not a two-player match.
