How to Play Hollywood Squares

Quick start

Press START, choose one or two players and confirm with A. Keep or change your contestant, enter up to four letters for a name, then choose END. On the board, move to a panelist and press A. Read the question at your own pace; press A or B to reveal the quip and answer. Use Left/Right to select Agree or Disagree and confirm with A before the timer reaches zero.

Controls

D-pad: choose options, letters, panelists, keys or cars; Left/Right switches Agree/Disagree. A confirms selections and answers. A or B advances to the panelist's quip or Secret Square question. START begins; SELECT is unused. In two-player mode each contestant uses their own controller. B is not documented as a general cancel button.

Hollywood Squares — About this game

Hollywood Squares combines trivia with a three-by-three board. You select a panelist, read the question and their joke before deciding whether the actual answer is right or wrong. A correct judgment earns your mark, so choosing a square matters as much as knowing the fact: you can build a line or block the opponent. A match contains three games, with a Secret Square prize in the second and a car-key bonus for the player with the highest total winnings afterward. This NES edition uses English questions and fictional on-screen panelists. Play against the computer or take turns with another player; the answer choice is timed, though the question can be read before advancing.
