How to Play Hook
Quick start
At the menu, set Player 1/2 if needed, move the sword cursor to START and confirm with A, B or START. On the island map, turn the compass with the D-pad until a destination name appears, then press A. Read Tink's advice and check the rotating item counter. In a forest, search all platforms for the required cherries before heading for the exit. Pick up thimbles and use Up+B when Tink is available to clear a dangerous enemy.
Controls
Left/Right moves; Down ducks or picks up objects; Up climbs ladders. A jumps and propels swimming; B thrusts the sword or uses an acquired metal detector. Up+B gives Tink a thimble to attack. START pauses/resumes play. In menus, SELECT or the D-pad moves the cursor and A/B/START confirms; on the map, D-pad turns the compass and A enters the named destination. In duels, A jumps and turns, Down+B gives a low thrust.
Hook — About this game
Hook mixes platform exploration with a map of Neverland rather than sending Peter straight through a fixed line of stages. Forests need cherries, caves need cakes and underwater areas require pearls before their exits can be used. A rotating status display tracks what is still missing, as well as strength, thimbles and marbles. The sword has a short reach, so avoiding trouble or spending a thimble on Tink can be safer than trading blows. Swimming areas replace strength with an air supply that must be replenished; flying journeys introduce balloons carrying helpful marbles or dangerous dynamite. The quest eventually leads through Rufio's duel to Hook's ship. A second player can take alternate turns, not join Peter on screen.
