How to Play Hottaman no Chitei Tanken
Quick start
Press START and learn the four-key objective in stage 1, which can be completed without using dynamite or warp tunnels. Dig to the treasure chests and use A to face approaching enemies with the laser. Leave unnecessary ground intact where it can keep enemies away. If pushing into a solid wall makes turning awkward, back away first. In later stages, select D with SELECT, face the block, place dynamite with B and retreat before it explodes.
Controls
D-pad moves and digs in four directions. A fires the laser; B deploys/uses the selected stocked tool; SELECT cycles the tool selection at the upper left. START begins or pauses/resumes play. Press Up on a tunnel to warp. On the Japanese hidden-word screen, choose characters with the D-pad and confirm with A; finish five characters with オワリ. A is not a jump button.
Hottaman no Chitei Tanken — About this game
Hottaman no Chitei Tanken makes route planning as important as fighting. Four keys hidden in treasure chests reveal each ordinary stage's exit, but tougher ground, water and solid blocks can force detours. Dynamite clears otherwise impassable blocks, while a temporary heat suit makes lava crossings possible. Other tools can block, attract or repel pursuing enemies, giving the player ways to shape a dangerous route rather than simply clear the screen. Staying too long brings more lava, and eggs may produce enemies instead of a welcome item. Fourteen exploration stages lead to a final encounter, after which the stages repeat. This is the Japanese original, not the Dig Dug III sprite hack or an English translation patch.
