How to Play Hyakki Yagyou
Quick start
Choose はじめから and press START. Fight manageable plant-like enemies near the opening forest to gain early levels; avoid large groups and return to an inn to recover. On a safe town screen, open A → のじゅく → へんそう before talking to residents. At sunset look for recruitable people and use くわえる. Save with のじゅく → きろく wherever camping is allowed, and obtain a rope before attempting dungeon entrances.
Controls
Surface D-pad: walk in four directions and select commands. A: open/confirm commands; B: close or cancel. Dungeon up: move forward; left/right turn in place, down turns around without stepping backward. Choose battle orders and targets through menus. START begins from the title; the camp command きろく records progress, not a password.
Hyakki Yagyou — About this game
Hyakki Yagyou divides its adventure between an overhead town and maze-like first-person dungeons. Daylight, sunset and night change the opportunities outside: townspeople need an appropriate disguise before they will talk, and potential companions appear at sunset. A party brings different equipment and jutsu options, while the ninja's death ends the game even if others survive. Underground travel uses turns and forward steps rather than the four-way walking of the surface. Building a party, carrying useful tools and recording progress are essential preparations for finding the three gems and confronting the demon king.
