How to Play Hyaku no Sekai no Monogatari - The Tales on a Watery Wilderness

Quick start

For a first session, choose 「いいえ」 when asked whether you have played before so the narrator explains the rules. Pick a scenario and day limit, then set human or computer adventurers. Start near the towns: check 「マップ」 and 「もくてき」, buy equipment, equip it with 「そうび」 and take manageable errands before chasing the main goal.

Controls

Use the D-pad to select menu commands, move across the board and scroll the map. A confirms; B cancels or backs out. Choose 「いどう」 to travel, 「そうび」 to equip purchases and 「まち」 or 「むら」 to enter a settlement when available. Fighting is handled through command choices, not timed attack buttons.

Hyaku no Sekai no Monogatari - The Tales on a Watery Wilderness — About this game

Hyaku no Sekai no Monogatari puts an RPG adventure inside a competitive board game. Choose a scenario about a dragon, treasure or a princess, then explore a newly generated island alongside other adventurers. Town errands, equipment and monster encounters all affect how you spend the limited days. A battle occupies turns rather than becoming a separate action challenge, and another traveller can join your party or turn into an opponent. Reaching the story's goal can end the session, but the final ranking rewards accumulated experience and wealth, so being first to finish is not automatically enough.
