How to Play Hydlide Special
Quick start
Press a button at the title, then START on GAME START. Begin with nearby slimes rather than entering dangerous areas. Hold A when making contact to attack; retreat and stand on safe grass to recover life. Use SELECT for SAVE after progress, but record PASSWORD before switching off because SAVE only lasts while power remains on.
Controls
D-pad moves and selects. Hold A for ATTACK; release for DEFEND. A also enters/exits dungeon entrances. B selects an available spell; hold A and press B to cast. SELECT opens the window; up/down selects, SELECT/A/B confirms, GAME returns. START begins or pauses/resumes.
Hydlide Special — About this game
Hydlide Special is the Japanese Famicom adventure in which Jim searches Fairyland to rescue Princess Ann. Battles happen directly on the map: approach enemies while holding A to attack, then release it when defense is more useful. Position and strength matter, so repeatedly charging a stronger creature is costly. Growth eventually unlocks magic, while hidden objects open the way forward. The Japanese release also offers a NORMAL or HIGH SPEED setting and distinguishes a temporary SAVE from a fourteen-character password for another session.
