How to Play Ice Climber
Quick start
Use SELECT to choose 1 PLAYER GAME or 2 PLAYER GAME, and Up/Down to set MOUNTAIN to 01 while learning. Press START. Jump with A to break overhead ice, then jump through the opening onto the next floor. Use B against enemies in front of you. Watch the moving clouds before committing, and keep climbing so the screen does not leave you behind. In the bonus section, collect vegetables without losing sight of the timer.
Controls
Left/Right moves. A jumps and breaks ice blocks overhead; B swings the hammer forward. On the title screen, SELECT chooses one or two players and Up/Down selects the mountain. START begins play and pauses/resumes during a game. Controller 1 moves Popo; controller 2 moves Nana in two-player mode.
Ice Climber — About this game
Ice Climber makes every jump part of the route you are building. Popo, or Popo and Nana together, must smash openings in the floor above and climb through eight levels of a mountain. Not every surface breaks, and moving clouds and conveyor-like floors demand careful timing. Topis repair the holes you have made, while birds and falling icicles disrupt the ascent. Stay low for too long and the polar bear forces the screen upward. Reaching the eighth floor leads to a timed bonus section with vegetables and a condor to catch. Two players can cooperate, but climbing ahead can leave a partner below the screen and cost them a life. There are 32 selectable mountains to tackle.
