How to Play Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue
Quick start
Use SELECT on the title screen to choose one or two players, then press START. Move toward the approaching soldiers and practice B punches before trying A kicks and A+B jump kicks. Collect available weapons without relying on them indefinitely; watch the life meter and take recovery items. In area 4, switch to the underwater gun attack instead of trying melee moves.
Controls
D-pad: move. On land, B punches or uses the held item; A performs a roundhouse kick; A+B performs a jump kick, with the D-pad changing its direction. In ordinary water, A grabs and throws an enemy. The US manual assigns A to underwater gunfire and says area 4 permits no other attack. START starts and pauses/resumes; SELECT chooses the player count and displays score/lives.
Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue — About this game
Paul and Vince are sent after Crime Ghost when its leader Faust abducts the president's daughter, Elise. This NES installment trades the earlier games' constant gunfire for close-range fighting: enemies approach from different directions, so moving into position matters as much as landing a punch. Picked-up guns and grenades offer temporary firepower, while life items replenish health and diamonds add points. The rescue also takes you underwater, where the fourth area restricts combat to gunfire. You can tackle the mission alone or work through enemy territory with a second player.
