How to Play Ikinari Musician
Quick start
Choose PLAY MODE / SOLO with Up or Down on the title screen, then press START. Press SELECT to bring up the settings pointer. Move it to the map arrow and press A; use Left or Right to choose a rhythm, A to select it and SELECT to return. Leave the settings panel with SELECT, then press START and listen to the two-bar count-in. Hold A and tap Up or Down slowly to shape a simple phrase. For a larger jump, release A, move with Left or Right, then sound the new note. Press START again to end the backing.
Controls
D-pad: select settings; on the keyboard, Up/Down moves one note at a time and Left/Right moves continuously. A: operate a panel switch or play a normal note. B: play the effects enabled on the panel. SELECT: toggle panel/keyboard control or return from the map. START: enter the selected mode and start/stop accompaniment. Controller I handles settings; DUET uses I and II, and the last A/B press owns the lead sound. Select the record/playback switch with A and stop with START. Recording again or entering the map erases the recording.
Ikinari Musician — About this game
Start with a beat, not a score target. Ikinari Musician gives you a screen keyboard and a bank of switches for experimenting with melodies, instrument sounds and accompaniment. PLAY MODE pairs the keyboard with a rhythm selected on a world map and a matching set of notes, so you can focus on timing and phrasing. Its violin, flute, trumpet and piano tones can be combined with effects such as vibrato or tremolo. PIANO MODE removes the backing and exposes the white-key notes for practising familiar tunes. DUET is a musical conversation: the two controllers share the lead sound, with the most recent A or B press taking over, rather than producing two independent melodies at once. Short performances can be recorded and replayed, but the recording is temporary and is erased by recording again or visiting the map.
