How to Play International Superstar Soccer 99
Quick start
Choose a one-player exhibition match, select both teams and review the lineup before kickoff. Use the directional pad to move, A to pass and B to shoot. When you lose possession, A attempts an interception and B tackles. SELECT accesses substitutions and START changes strategy.
Controls
The directional pad moves the selected player and aims. In possession, A passes and B shoots, crosses or clears according to position. On defence, A attempts an interception and B handles sliding tackles or headers. SELECT accesses substitutions; START accesses strategy. Menus use the directional pad, A to confirm and B to return.

The lineup and formation screens let you consider player strengths before kickoff. On the pitch, the same buttons change roles with possession: passing and shooting become interception and tackling when defending. Substitutions and tactical changes help respond to the match.
