Quick start
Open the Shogi guide, learn the pieces and choose an easier AI level. Begin a match, check a piece's destination and consider the opponent's reply before confirming.
Controls
Use the stylus to move pieces or the Control Pad and A for selection. B cancels, START opens the game menu and SELECT calls the guide during play. L/R scroll guide text; Y reverses a piece in board editing.

AI Shougi DS provides a Japanese chess board and a guide covering the pieces, game flow and useful terms. Choose an AI level from beginner settings upward and use handicap options such as removing a rook or bishop when needed. Unlike a captured piece simply disappearing, Shogi lets you drop captured pieces back into play, making open squares and the king's safety matter throughout the game. Start with the guide and a low computer level, learn one legal move at a time and inspect the board before confirming. Position editing offers a way to set up situations for practice.
