How to Play Quest RPG: Brian's Journey
Quick start
Start a new adventure and explore the area around the monastery. Visit Bart's hut by the stable and collect the spirit there, then head into town and find the spirit near the sheep pasture. Speak to the girls beside it and enter the hut for the early fight with Tim. Return to the monastery afterward and follow the conversations before continuing your journey.
Controls
D-pad: move, navigate menus or choose elements in the magic window. A: talk, confirm, open chests or attack with the staff at close range. B: cancel or open/close the magic window; select elements, then cast with A. START: field menu. Fire is up, water right, earth down and wind left. In towns, A plus a direction runs; this does not work in fields or dungeons.

During a turn, move within Brian's action area before attacking. A staff strike works at close range, while spells offer different reaches and effects. Open the magic window, select elements in sequence and cast the resulting spell. Character abilities grow through their use rather than a conventional experience-level system. Exploring for spirits and speaking to townspeople complements battle practice, while the field menu provides items, status and saving.
