How to Play Legend of Spyro, The - A New Beginning
Quick start
Start Story and follow the opening movement and combat tutorial. Touch the Save Crystal in a new area, practice targeting one enemy and read the first crystal-puzzle instructions.
Controls
Control Pad moves, B jumps, Y performs melee, A uses primary breath and X secondary breath. R changes element, L target, START pauses and SELECT opens upgrades. Tap enemies or boss targets and incoming projectiles when the encounter requires it.

A New Beginning on DS alternates overhead battles with cinematic flying bosses. Clear enemy groups using breath and melee attacks, and tap protected foes to remove a shield or turn them over before striking. Boss encounters put targets and incoming projectiles on the touch screen, so attack openings and defensive taps compete for attention. Power Crystal puzzles add a quieter task of directing colored light. Begin in the tutorial area, learn targeting and a basic attack, and touch the Save Crystal when entering a new area before moving deeper into the story.
