How to Play The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
Quick start
Choose a new file and name Link. In Marin’s house, speak to Tarin to get your shield and equip it. Follow the path south to the beach, hold the shield button to push sea urchins aside, and collect your sword by the shore. Equip the sword, then follow the owl’s advice toward the Mysterious Forest and the key for Tail Cave.
Controls
D-pad: move and select items. A/B: use the items assigned to those buttons. Equip the sword or shield in the inventory before using it; hold the sword button, then release for a spin attack. START: open the item screen. SELECT: view the map. To open the original GBC save menu, press A + B + START + SELECT together.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX — About this game
After a shipwreck, Link wakes on Koholint Island, where the mystery of the Wind Fish stands between him and home. This Game Boy Color DX edition blends overhead exploration, dungeon puzzles and sword combat with an eccentric island cast. Collect eight musical instruments, find useful tools and investigate the secrets behind the island’s strange dreamlike atmosphere.
DX adds color graphics, a color-themed dungeon and a photography side activity to the original handheld adventure. New equipment opens paths in earlier areas, encouraging you to remember blocked passages and return later. The sword and shield occupy the same A/B item slots as other tools, so change your loadout for each obstacle. This is the GBC edition, with its original two-button equipment system.
