How to Play Mahjong Taikai
Quick start
Start an available CPU or free match and read the table's rules. Inspect the drawn tile before selecting a discard, aiming for a legal scoring hand while watching opponents' discards. Learn when to pass a call instead of taking every offered meld.
Controls
Use the DS touch hand or tile cursor to select a discard and confirm as the current panel requests. Choose displayed call, riichi, win or pass controls only when legal. Inspect the rule setting and score before confirming a meld; menu and help options do not replace making a valid hand.
Mahjong Taikai — About this game
Mahjong Taikai brings Koei's characterful table opponents to DS. The league spans five stages with rooms using different rules, including short East-only and more unusual variations. Winning advances your standing and earns the game's prizes, while Survival tests whether you can continue against changing opposition. Free matches offer a place to learn the rules before committing to a league run. Read the current room's scoring conditions, choose between a quick low-value hand and a slower high-value plan, and watch each opponent's discards. The touch screen holds your own hand while the upper view shows the rest of the table. Begin with the opening instructions and practice the main interaction before pursuing optional rewards. Read the current objective, make one deliberate choice and watch its effect before repeating it. A short first session makes it easier to separate a missed instruction from a difficult challenge. Return to the available menu when you need to check progress or adjust your approach, then continue from the next clear objective.
