How to Play Maison Ikkoku: Omoide no Photograph

Quick start

Press START on the title to begin. Use the up and down arrow keys to select ``Look'' or ``Talk,'' then press A to confirm your surroundings and what people are saying. If there is a mark that continues from left to right on the menu, you can display items that are hidden on the left and right sides. When entering someone's room, the basic rule is to knock instead of opening the door suddenly. Also check the mailbox at the entrance, and if there is any mail addressed to Kyoko, deliver it there, it will be a clue to progress. "Show" is also used when handing over something, so be careful not to show off important things unnecessarily. If you want to save in the middle of the game, go to the restroom on the first or second floor and follow the instructions on the screen, and then load the game by going to the restroom after starting the game.

Controls

START: Start the game from the title screen. D-pad up and down: Move command or target cursor. Left/Right: If there is a continuation of the menu, display commands that do not fit on the screen. A: Decide the command and open if there are lower choices. When a ★ appears on a message, press A to continue. B: Cancel subcommand and return to main command. Use the corresponding commands to move, investigate, and use tools. ``Show'' also has the function of passing the item to the other person. Saving and loading is an in-game procedure that is performed in the toilet, and is not an immediate save by START.

Maison Ikkoku: Omoide no Photograph — About this game

This is an adventure in which you play as Yusaku Godai of Ikkokukan Room 5 and follow the clues in the photo that the caretaker, Kyoko Otonashi, wants to hide. Select ``See,'' ``Speak,'' ``Take,'' or ``Use,'' and proceed by researching rooms in the building and nearby shops. The destination and actions you can take will change depending on the situation at the time. While Yotsuya, Ichinose, and Akemi provide information, they are also troublesome opponents, blocking paths and begging for food. Part of solving the mystery is to give the other person something that suits their taste and set their mood. Create an opportunity for Kyoko to enter the caretaker's office by delivering flowers or mail to her. Once you enter the game, it's not over; the story moves forward each time you overcome the obstacles of the residents. This is a work that takes you through the lively daily life unique to Ikkokukan, picking up on changes in conversation while checking your wallet and belongings.
