How to Play Major League Baseball

Quick start

Choose one player and Regular Game, then league, teams and lineup. Move menu choices with Select or the D-pad; confirm with A or Start. Use B to cycle position lists while assembling the lineup, then Start to play. Time A for a full swing. After contact, watch runners rather than assuming they will make every decision. On defense, move to the ball before choosing a base and throwing.

Controls

Batting: A swings; releasing midway checks or bunts. Up/Down shifts batting position, Left/Right adjusts reach. Running: base direction+B advances or steals; direction+A retreats. Pitching: A delivers, Up gives a changeup, Down a fastball; Left/Right steers. Direction+B attempts a pickoff. Fielding: D-pad moves; direction+A throws, direction+B runs toward that base. Base directions: Right first, Up second, Left third, Down home. Start calls time-out for substitutions.

Major League Baseball — About this game

Major League Baseball gives the pregame lineup almost as much attention as the action on the diamond. Choose from twenty-six teams, compare player statistics and decide your batting order and starting pitcher before taking the field. Players are represented by numbers and statistics rather than licensed names. A regular game is a standalone contest, while the All-Star option lets you assemble a roster across teams in a league; a World Series option is also available. Once play begins, the view changes from the pitcher-and-batter scene to a scrolling field. You must position fielders, direct throws and manage runners, with time-outs providing opportunities for substitutions. Pitch speed and movement can be varied rather than relying on a single automatic delivery.
