How to Play California Games II
Quick start
Press 1 or 2 at the title. Use the D-pad to point at a practice event and confirm with either button. Try skateboarding first: build sideways momentum, watch tunnel entrances and return upright before leaving a tunnel.
Controls
Menus: D-pad, 1/2 confirm. Skateboard: left/right steer and corkscrew in tunnels; 1 handplant at rim, 2 + left/right aerial turn; up at rim board slide. Bodyboard: D-pad rides wave/dodges shallows; 1 + left cutback, then 2 + left off-the-lip aerial or 2 + right reverse aerial. Hang glider: 1 launch, D-pad steer, 2 drop water bomb. Snowboard: D-pad positions helicopter/steers, 1 drops rider/jumps (hold for longer jump), 1 at bowl rim handplant, 2 at upper-left rim exits bowl.
California Games II — About this game
The Master System sequel offers four events: skateboarding, bodyboarding, hang gliding and snowboarding. Skateboarding follows a course with half-pipe edges and tunnels, rather than simply repeating the first game's stationary ramp. Bodyboarding combines wave tricks with dodging hazards in shallow water. Hang gliding asks you to use thermals and drop water bombs onto buoys. Snowboarding begins with a helicopter drop before a descent and a snow bowl. Individual practice helps you learn the different demands before a competition.
