How to Play Milon's Secret Castle
Quick start
Press START, walk to a ground-floor entrance and press Up to go inside. Shoot blocks with B while looking for coins, a key and the hidden exit. In the first maze, some blocks can be pushed after neighboring blocks have been destroyed; shoot the space they leave to check for a shop. Save money for spring shoes and the shrinking medicine, and collect honeycombs before attempting the first guardian. Buy a displayed shop item by jumping beneath it with A. Once you have collected the first crystal, hold Left and press START at the title screen after a game over to continue.
Controls
Left/Right: move. Up: enter a doorway or window. A: jump. B: fire a bubble on an upward angle. Down + B: aim bubbles downward. START: begin or pause the game. Shop purchases are made by jumping into the displayed item. After obtaining the first crystal, Left + START enables continuing after a game over. These are NES/Famicom controls, not the Game Boy port's menu controls.
Milon's Secret Castle — About this game
Milon's Secret Castle combines platform jumping with a search for things the castle refuses to show you at first. Bubbles defeat enemies, break selected blocks and uncover hidden doors; finding the key is only part of escaping a maze room. Coins pay for equipment in concealed shops, while honeycombs extend Milon's health. Progress depends on investigating rooms and buying the tools that make new routes possible, rather than simply reaching the right edge of the screen. The guardian battles provide crystals and access to higher floors. Running has momentum, so leaving room for a jump matters, and repeated enemy appearances can make a careless search costly. The early challenge is to build up health and equipment before tackling a guardian, then use what you learned about the castle's hiding places to explore further.
